Abstract
A new species Aspergillus phialiseptatus whose species epithet wart selected from its
distinct morphology, septated phialide, was separated from A. fumigatus by
Kwon-Chung in 1975. Recently we have isolated a strain of Aspergillus morphologically
resembling to this new species from sputum of a patient who has a mycetoma like
shadow in an open negative cavity on chest radiography, and bib chief complaint being
persistant bloody and purulent sputum for fast one year. Examination of his sputum
specimens by either direct microscopy or culture failed to demonstrate tubercle bacilli.
Thus it seems that the continuous hemoptysis might not be due to tuberculosis but due
to mycetoma probably formed by A. phialiseptatus. Unfortunately this patient strongly
refused to operate it, which will give definite diagnosis.
